Offline Update basics:
- Points to localized share
- Must copy entire directory structure from OpenManage Enterprise downloads
- Supports CIF, NFS, and HTTP shares
- Great for dark sites or locked down scenarios
- Also necessary in certain workaround scenarios
NOTE: OpenManage Enterprise 3.0 does not work with offline NFS Shares or HTTP shares if proxy is enabled.
Offline Console upgrade:
Requirements:
-
CIF, NFS, or HTTP share
- Go to OpenManage Enterprise downloads and download all files, then copy the
LexingtonUpdates.xmlandLexingtonUpdates.xml.ascto the root of the share. - Make a new folder for the version you want to upgrade, like 3.4.0, at the root of the share.
- Copy the content of the online version of the folder to the share folder.
Offline Upgrade steps:
- Located in Application Settings > Console and Extensions (called Console Upgrades in earlier release)
- Select Update settings
- Select Network Share and put in the NFS or HTTP share
- Use the Test option to verify basic Share connection
- Press Refresh in the center to look for an update
- If a new update is detected, it shows up in the next section and gives the option to Download and Install
NOTE: On newer versions, the Download and Install jobs are broken up into separate jobs for better troubleshooting.
- The download job is called
Default_OpenManage_Enterprise_Bundle_Download_Task - This job downloads the
tar.gzappliance bits and copies it to/var/opt/dell/omc/archives/ - Update Job is called Console Update Execution
- This performs
appliance_update.pyand logs you out.
NOTE: This can take 20 minutes to 2 hours.
- There is a job called Post Upgrade Task that must also run after it completes
Console Upgrade Troubleshooting scenarios:
NOTE: In most instances, Console Upgrades are proxy or network related, or configuration of the share in Offline upgrades.
No Console Upgrades presented for updates.
- Verify Test connection to the share.
- Verify that the folder structure matches the online structure.
- Re-download the
LexingtonUpdates.xmland do not open it on notepad++ or anything. - If using IIS HTTP share, ensure that MIME types are set for
.ascand.xml.
Download issues:
- Check the debug logs for errors if none is present in the UI.
- Verify Test connection to the share.
- Verify that the folder structure matches the online structure.
- Mount the share on a different system in the network and initiate the download.
- Check Share permissions based on the results of the test.
- Take a Network capture to track down the issue.
