PowerPath Management Appliance
PowerPath for Windows 6.4 and later
PPMA reports an error message:"Error: Unable to add Host" when trying to add a Windows host running PowerPath 6.4 or above.
Cause
PowerPath for Windows v6.4 needs OpenSSL binaries to be installed manually as PowerPath package does not ship OpenSSL binaries along.
The following is the error seen in the Application event logs of the PowerPath/Windows host: EmcPowerPathManagementComponent EMC PowerPath Error: EMC PowerPath Remote Management component: Error: OpenSSL binaries are missing in windows\system32 directory and hence EMC PowerPath Remote Management Component service won't be started.
Resolution
Install OpenSSL on the Windows host, the version of which depends on the PowerPath version. See PowerPath Installation and Administration Guide for the required version of OpenSSL,
The following is the recommendation mentioned in the Installation and Administration Guide for PowerPath 6.4:
Beginning with the 6.4 release of PowerPath for Windows, Open SSL 1.0.x has to be manually installed in the default windows system directory (C:\Windows \System32) for the Remote Management to work. Open SSL is required for the EMC PowerPath Remote Management component service to start. If Open SSL is installed after PowerPath installation, start the EMC PowerPath Remote Management component service manually.
