Introduction

What is Dell's Rugged Control Center?

The Rugged Control Center is an application designed for Dell rugged devices such as:

  • Dell Pro Rugged 13 RA13250
  • Dell Pro Rugged 14 RB14250
  • Latitude Rugged Extreme Tablet 7212
  • Latitude Rugged Extreme 7214
  • Latitude Rugged Extreme Tablet 7220
  • Latitude Rugged Extreme Tablet 7220EX
  • Latitude Rugged 7414
  • Latitude Rugged Extreme 7424
  • Latitude Rugged Extreme Tablet 7030
  • Latitude Rugged Extreme Tablet 7230
  • Latitude Rugged Extreme 7330
  • Latitude Rugged 5414
  • Latitude Rugged 5420
  • Latitude Rugged 5424
  • Latitude Rugged 5430

This application allows you to configure and customize crucial settings on these rugged devices.

RCC requires a restart between uninstalling and reinstalling the application

You get an installation error if you uninstall RCC on Windows 10 or 11 and then install RCC without restarting your device first.

If you have uninstalled RCC, then restart your device before you re-install it on that same device and you avoid this.

RCC does not have an auto update function when you upgrade to the latest version of the Windows Operating System

There are different versions of the Rugged Control Center application that only work on certain revisions of the Windows operating system.

The older the application revision, the older version of Windows it works with. (For Example: RCC2.3 works with Windows 7.)

RCC does not include the ability to self-update. Which means if you update your operating system to the latest version of Windows available: The application does not detect this and update to a version that supports that operating system version. It often results in incompatibility issues.

Note: You must have administrator rights on the device to make any operating system changes or update any software.

To resolve this, follow these steps after the operating system upgrade is complete:

  1. Update the RCC application:

    1. Go to the Dell Support Site.

    2. Enter the service tag or express service code to get drivers specific to how your device shipped.

Alternatively you can choose your Latitude rugged device from the product list to get a general list of drivers for that device.

    3. Update the application to the latest version of Dell Rugged Control Center Application. Follow the instructions in the following link to download and install the correct installer:

RCC does not start automatically

If you are using your Latitude rugged device in domain environments, you may see that the Rugged Control Center application does not start automatically.

This happens under the following circumstances:

  • You are logging in to the device as a standard domain user, not a local user
  • There is no active network connection to your domain network (Wifi or LAN)
Note: You must have administrator rights on the device to make any operating system changes or update any software.

To resolve this, follow these steps after the operating system upgrade is complete:

  1. Update the RCC application:

    1. Go to the Dell Support Site.

    2. Enter the service tag or express service code to get drivers specific to how your device shipped.

Alternatively you can choose your Latitude rugged device from the product list to get a general list of drivers for that device.

    3. Update the application to the latest version of Dell Rugged Control Center Application. Follow the instructions in the following link to download and install the correct installer:
