Instructions

As of April 27, 2010, scenarios that do require a cross-platform migration process (thus requiring a Professional Services engagement) include:

  • Change from Intel x86 architecture to IA64 architecture.
  • Change from Windows platform to Linux platform (or conversely)
  • Change from a non-NetWorker Virtual Edition (NVE) platform to an NVE platform (or conversely)

As of April 27, 2010, scenarios that are a direct upgrade and do not require a cross-platform migration process include:

  • Change from Windows 32-bit (x86) to Windows 64-bit (x86-64).
  • Change from Linux 32-bit to Linux 64-bit.

For operating system migrations not listed above, always assume that it is a cross-platform process and not an upgrade.

CAUTION: The cross-platform migration process is only supported if completed by Dell Professional Services. Cross-platform migrations performed by NetWorker support or end-customers are not supported. For further information about this procedure, consult with your Dell account or sales representative.
