Existing criteria for Mount host Storage Group selection involves the Service Level of the Storage Group, and of course visibility to an initiator group for the mount hosts.
When multiple Storage Groups exist that meet the existing criteria provided by AppSync to choose a Mount Host Storage Group in the mount phase of a service plan, AppSync will sort the Storage Groups by name and select the first one alphanumerically.
Once a Service Plan has selected a Mount host Storage Group in such a manner, it will continue to use this Storage Group for mounting even if a new Storage Group is created that becomes the new alphanumeric first.
The Service Plan needs to be recreated for it to potentially use any newly created Storage Group in the above scenario.
NOTE: For Mount hosts that are VMWare Virtual Machines that are part of an ESX Cluster, a hotfix may need to be applied. Please contact Customer Support to obtain this hotfix if AppSync is not selecting the alphanumeric first storage group when mounting to a Virtual Machine.

vmax.host.storagegroup.mapping is not designed for use with VMAX3.
