OneFS: Warn event: Node pool <node pool name> is underprotected.
Summary: A warning event stating a Node Pool is underprotected may be posted.
Symptoms
ISILON Warns event on <IP>: Node pool <node pool name> is underprotected.
Cause
Starting with version 7.2, OneFS has a feature to provide a suggested protection level for node pools. This is documented in the OneFS Administration Guides (see PowerScale OneFS Info Hubs)
Based on the configuration of your Isilon cluster, OneFS automatically calculates the amount of protection that is recommended to maintain stringent data protection requirements. OneFS includes a function to calculate the suggested protection for data to maintain a theoretical mean-time to data loss (MTTDL) of 5000 years. Suggested protection provides the optimal balance between data protection and storage efficiency on your cluster. Multiple requested protection settings can be specified when configuring File Pool Policies. Protection settings can be applied to a single file, to a subset of files called file pools, or for all files on the cluster. Specify a setting below suggested protection is not recommended. OneFS periodically checks the protection level on the cluster, and alerts if data falls below the recommended protection.
The Suggested protection level can be found by going to the File System tab > Storage Pools > SmartPools > Edit node pool details > edit:
Resolution
Additional Information
If the requested protection is higher than the suggested protection, you may also see "<node pool> has a different requested protection from the suggested protection of +2d:1n."
<node pool> has a requested protection of +3d:1n1d (or other). Browse to SmartPools > Tiers & Node Pools to update requested protection for this node pool."
