Dell Unity: Refreshing a replication session with a transfer in progress may lead to a hung task
Summary: Customer may have hang tasks if replication operations are issued for a session with a transfer in progress. (Dell Correctable)
Symptoms
Background to this event:
- Customer issuing a replication state change such as Pause, Failover With Sync (SwitchOver), or Failover or Sync to a session with an active transfer in progress
- This typically is issued in error (without the customer realizing that the session is in active transfer).
- Alternatively, the session transfer may be very slow or stop responding and the customer may be issuing the command hoping to "see progress"
Subsequent operations attempt fails with the following error message:
Operation failed. Error code: 0x987f Another replication operation is already in progress. Please try again later. (Error Code:0x987f)
Cause
The transfer is progress status is very likely normal but in specific conditions would require investigation (specifically if not updating/last sync time remains in the past)
Resolution
Contact Dell Technologies Technical Support or your Authorized Service Partner and quote this Knowledgebase ID.
If the subsequent task was not issued yet, examine the replication status in Unisphere over time and confirm it is progressing properly.
Wait until the sync is complete before issuing any further replication operations.
If the session is not updating over time, it requires Dell Technologies support assistance investigating the issue further (assuming no further obvious faults reported on the array).
Additional Information
To verify that the session is active or healthy and in active transfer, double-click session name for its properties in the Unisphere Replication page or issue the following cli command (run at least twice to check on updated status):
UEMCLI Example:
