Dell EMC Unity: Unexpected single or dual SP reboot due to memory issues (User Correctable)

Summary: Unexpected single or dual SP reboots due to an out-of-memory condition caused by the "mergelogs" process.

This article applies to   This article does not apply to

Symptoms

Unexpected single or dual SP reboot.
The issue is usually seen on lower-end Unity models (300/300F) as they contain less physical memory.
This condition is also more likely to be seen in Unity OE version 5.0.0.x

Cause

The "mergelogs" component of NGTRiiAGE (run by uDoctor) is a memory intensive process. Mergelogs is run at least once a day (5-10 minutes) to all ESRS enabled arrays, as well as periodically on non-SRS enabled arrays.  Although this could happen in prior Unity OE releases, the newer version of Mergelogs introduced in Unity OE Code 5.0 processes more timestamp formats and log files, so are more likely to see this condition.

Resolution

Fix
This issue is fixed in Unity OE 5.0.1.0.5.011

HotFixes
A hotfix is available for this issue if you are running Unity OE version 5.0.0., however the recommendation would be to upgrade to Unity OE 5.0.1 or later.

Workaround
Disable the "triaging" service in uDoctor.  Customers will not lose any functionality leaving uDoctor in this state.  Customers who have opted-in to CloudIQ will still see their daily Data Collects sent to Dell EMC.

To disable the daily_triage service in uDoctor, SSH in to the array using your "service" credentials and execute the following command:
svc_udoctor -j -d daily_triage
