Data Domain: High failure rate seen on HERA NVRAM module

Symptoms

Applies to:

  • DD6300 / DD6800 / DD9300 / DD9500 / DD9800 (all running HERA NVRAM Module)
  • DDOS versions
    • Data Domain Operating System 6.0: 6.0.2.40 or earlier
      Data Domain Operating System 6.1: 6.1.2.30 or earlier
      Data Domain Operating System 6.2: 6.2.0.10 or earlier

Symptoms:

  • A higher than expected failure rate of the 8GB NVRAM (HERA) module is being encountered.

Cause

The root cause of these NVRAM Module failures has been determined (DTA 533489). 

A software update has been made available for the affected models.

Resolution

If the system has reported an NVRAM failure with a single correctable error, the Filesystem is disabled (by design).

  • Using DD-CLI enter the command:​​​​​ 
    • # system show nvram-detailed
  • Reboot the DD unit and this should clear the single transient fault.
  • If the error does not clear by rebooting, replace the NVRAM card
