Symptoms

NMM SQL AG log backups are promoted to level FULL after a failover. The following messages are seen in the 'nsrsqlsv.log'

<<date-time>>  (pid13152) NSR info SQL Connection to <SQL-Instance> is created. SQL Server Version is 13.00.5026
176964:(pid 13152): Log gap detected in incremental backup for AAG database [<Database>].

This backup of [<Database>] will be promoted to a full database backup.


The backup time increases as the backup is promoted to FULL. 


 

Cause

The backup promotion to level FULL occurs because after failover, there is a break in the LSN for the AG database recorded in the msdb of the new SQL host.

Resolution

Backup with the parameter Backup_promotion=none in the backup command
