Dell's Command Configure CCTK tool is causing WMI and SMBIOS error messages

 

The Dell Command Configure command-line tool CCTK.exe may return one of the following errors when attempting to run it under a WinPE environment.

On-screen Errors:

  • CoCreateInstance() failed for locator
  • GetWMISMBIOSTable: NULL pointer to SMBIOS Entry specified.
  • GetWMISMBIOSVersion: null pointer passed as pSmbios. getSmbiosTable():
  • GetWMISMBIOSData returned 0 for buffer size. CoCreateInstance() failed for locator
  • GetWMISMBIOSTable: NULL pointer to SMBIOS Entry specified.
  • GetWMISMBIOSVersion: null pointer passed as pSmbios. getSmbiosTable():
  • GetWMISMBIOSData returned 0 for buffer size.

How to stop Dell's Command Configures CCTK tool causing WMI and SMBIOS error messages

 

The reason the on-screen errors occur is that there is a WMI package WinPE-WMI that is required for CCTK.exe to run. It is not included when creating the WinPE media using the Microsoft Assessment and Development Kit (ADK) by default.

Use the appropriate batch file that Dell supplies with the CCTK tool:

_x86)64)winpe_10.bat

"%DISM%" /image="%WINPEPATH%"\mount/Add-Package/PackagePath:"%ADKTOOKS%\WinPE_OCs\winpe-wmi.cab
