Resolution

Suggested troubleshooting for no power issue.

Follow these revised troubleshooting steps recommended by the Dell International Product Support (IPS) engineering group:

  1. Press and hold the power button for three seconds.
Systems that have been inactive for a time may result in the battery entering "Storage mode." Pressing and holding the power button for three seconds wakes the battery from this mode.
  2. Connect the USB Type-C A/C adapter power connection to the system and wait 30 minutes before attempting to power on the system again. If the system battery is below 5% charge, the system may not boot even with the AC adapter connected to the system. Allowing the battery to charge while the system is off resolves this issue.
  3. Perform an RTC Reset of the system per: How to Reset the Real-Time Clock (RTC) to recover your Dell PC.
The Intel Management engine could crash, or other BIOS-related issues can occur to prevent BOOT. RTC Reset can resolve these issues.
  4. Perform the LCD Built-in Self-Test (BIST) by holding the Volume down button and pressing the power button.
If the red, green, blue, and white screens cycle and there is no screen distortion then the LCD is functional. Press the Esc key on the keyboard to exit the LCD BIST.

No Bootable Device Error

Customers may encounter a no bootable device error when they attempt to boot the system to a Windows 10 image while the system is configured in BIOS in the Legacy Mode.
The Legacy Mode is not supported on the Latitude 5285, 5289 and 3189. Reconfigure the BIOS from Legacy to UEFI boot mode, which prevents the problem, following the steps below:

  1. Restart the computer and press the F2 key on the keyboard when you see the Dell logo. The computer enters the System Setup (BIOS) settings.
  2. Select General then Boot Sequence from the Settings menu.
  3. Change the Boot List Option setting to UEFI.
  4. Select Exit at the bottom of the screen to exit from System Setup and restart the computer.
