Dell EqualLogic PS Series - Java SE licensing requirements for Group Manager UI
Summary: Administrators accessing the EqualLogic Group Manager UI, using a web browser or the standalone application, are required to have Oracle Java Standard Edition (SE) installed.
Symptoms
Administrators may inquire about which version of Java to use for the Group Manager UI.
Cause
Effective January 01, 2019, Oracle has instituted new licensing requirements for their Java Products. For Java SE commercial, you must now purchase a subscription-based license in order to receive updates. This change may require you to obtain Java licenses from Oracle.
Managing a Dell EqualLogic PS Series group using CLI across a telnet, SSH or a serial connection is not impacted.
More information about Java licensing and distribution FAQs can be viewed here.
Resolution
Dell Technologies PS Series administrators that continue to access the Group Manager UI, using a web browser or the standalone application, have the following options:
- Continue using Java SE 8 without a subscription. This option may carry risk as the availability of future security updates from Oracle may be limited.
- Purchase an Oracle Java SE Subscription from Oracle.
