Users can use the below steps to change the background in Windows 8.
Changing the Start Screen Background
- Press the Win+R keys.
- Type in gpedit.msc
- Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, Personalization
- Double click on Prevent changing the start menu background
- Set it to Disabled
- Press Win+C keys to bring up the Charm bar
- Click on Settings
- Click on Change PC Settings
- Click on Personalize
- Click on Start Screen
- From here you have options to change the color and background screen
Changing the Lock Screen Background
- Press Win+R keys
- Type in gpedit.msc
- Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, Personalization
- Double click on Prevent changing lock screen image
- Set it to Disabled
- Press Win+C keys to bring up the Charm bar
- Click on Settings
- Click on Change PC Settings
- Click on Personalize
- Click on Lock screen
- From here you can browse to an image on your computer.
Changing the Desktop Background
By default, the Menu color can make it difficult to determine which window is the active one. To change the color:
- Press Win+C keys (to bring up the Charm Bar)
- Click on Settings
- Click on Personalization
- Click on Desktop Background
- From here you can select either images (Computer and Browse) or a solid color.
