This article details an auto reset issue which may occur at POST in PowerEdge XE7420/7440 systems.

Cause

Description

Dell engineers have confirmed reports of some PowerEdge XE7420 or XE7440 systems resetting one to two times during the POST section of the boot sequence. This causes the POST to take noticeably longer than normal to complete.

When the system resets, the POST progress bar cycles from "Initializing Intel Ultra Path Interconnect" through "Configuring Memory," "Loading BIOS drivers" to "Initializing PCIe, USB, and Video."

Solution

Engineering is aware of this issue and has confirmed occurrence in rare conditions that are related to the PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC).

Update the PERC FW to the latest to fix the issue.
