Symptoms

The following warning may be seen in the kernel log:
  
DMAR: RMRR base: 0x0000006f55f000 end: 0x0000006f561fff
DMAR: [Firmware Bug]: No firmware reserved region can cover this RMRR [0x000000006f55f000-0x000000006f561fff], contact BIOS vendor for fixes
DMAR: [Firmware Bug]: Your BIOS is broken; bad RMRR [0x000000006f55f000-0x000000006f561fff]

Other OS with similar or upstream Linux kernel patch versions may report the same errors.

Cause

This issue is caused due to the Linux kernel upgrade and design change.

There have been rare situations where hardware replacement allowed the Operating System (OS) install to complete without receiving this error.
 

Resolution

Do not replace any hardware, unless advised by a GSE.

There is no functional impact. Dell does not plan to change the 14G Intel platform BIOS core design for this specific issue.
