Symptoms

Unable to select 75 Hz for QHD (2560x1440) resolution on HDMI port, but without issues on USB-C connection.

Cause

  • Pixel clock for the monitor is set at 304.25 MHz which exceeded certain graphic card limits.
  • There is a graphic card limitation on pixel clock at 297 MHz for HDMI 1.4.
  • Example of graphic cards affected:
    • Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics
    • Intel(R) UHD Graphics
Note: There are certain graphic cards with higher pixel clocks that do support QHD at 75 Hz mode.

Resolution

Switch to USB-C port when QHD 75 Hz (2560x1440) cannot be selected on HDMI port.
