Symptoms

The issue occurs when processing SC commands. If a GNS group spans multiple frames and uses different RDF Groups on the different controllers, the RDF group number from the first frame is incorrectly used on any subsequent frame.

SQ commands are unaffected.

In the following example, see RDF group 88 is incorrectly used when trying to perform the SC action against the second controller 000xxxxxxxxxx:

Cause

This is due to a software issue with incorrect GNS group processing. Host Component commands that are issued with GNS groups are targeting an incorrect RDF group. 

Resolution

Workaround:
  • Use a format of the SC command that does not rely on a GNS name that spans multiple controllers. This may require that appropriate individual SC commands must be run on each controller which is specified in the GNS group.

  • For Mainframe Enablers 8.3, PTF SR83075 is developed to correct the issue. It is available to download from Dell Technologies Online Support.
