RESOLUTION: See hotfix 299999 for more information

The firmware must be updated at the earliest opportunity. Since this hotfix can be installed on a running system, no downtime is required. Install the hotfix when the system is idle.

The hotfix must not be applied to systems that do not include Avamar Data Store (ADS) Gen4T hardware.

Example:
  • Systems based on Gen3, Gen4, Gen4S, or Gen5A hardware.
  • Virtual Machine systems, example: AVE, VDP, or VDPA.

Steps to install hotfix.

1. Run the proactive health check.
2. Ensure that at least one checkpoint was created and validated within the past 24 hours.
3. Ensure that replication to another server has succeeded within the past 24 hours.
4. Remedy errors in the system log files, particularly those related to hard disk storage.
5. Remedy unacknowledged server-related events in the Avamar Management Console Server (MCS).

The script checks if all the logical drives are "Optimal". If the logical drives are not all Optimal, then the script stop with an error message. It must correct the underlying cause before attempting to run this script again.

Download the ads4t_hgst_update.tgz from hotfix 299999 using this article: Avamar: How to find and download a product hotfix, patch, install or upgrade package from the Dell Support website..

SINGLE-NODE UPDATE:

As root, copy the ads4t_hgst_update.tgz file to the /tmp directory on the system to be updated.
Enter the /tmp directory and unpack the tar file with these commands:
cd /tmp
tar xvfz ads4t_hgst_update.tgz

Enter the update directory with the command:
cd ads4t_hgst_update

Run the update script with the command:
./ads4t_hgst_fwupdate.sh

The script examines the drives and updates only the Hitachi 2TB SAS Aries-KP drives. A reboot is not required. If any update fails re-run the script until "Nothing to do" is reported.

MULTI-NODE GRID UPDATE:

Log in to the Avamar Utility Node as admin, switch to root and load the keys:
su -
ssh-agent bash
ssh-add /root/.ssh/rootid

Copy the ads4t_hgst_update.tgz file to the /tmp directory on the Avamar Utility Node. Propagate the ads4t_hgst_update.tgz file to all the nodes with the commands:
cd /tmp
mapall --noerror --all+ --user=root copy ads4t_hgst_update.tgz
mapall --noerror --all+ --user=root 'mv ~root/ads4t_hgst_update.tgz /tmp/'

Extract the script and run it with the commands:
mapall --noerror --all+ --user=root 'cd /tmp ; tar xvfz ads4t_hgst_update.tgz'
mapall --noerror --all+ --user=root 'cd /tmp/ads4t_hgst_update ; ./ads4t_hgst_fwupdate.sh'

The script examines the drives and update only the Hitachi 2TB SAS Aries-KP drives.

Note: No reboot is required.

If any update fails, re-run the script until "Nothing to do" is reported for all nodes. Updating takes about 30 s per drive.
