  5. Extract the virtual hard drive from the .zip file you downloaded from the Dell website to the location you want this VM to house its drive.
  6. Select Generation 1 for compatibility.
  7. Assign it the necessary specs:
  8. Number of devices Monitor and collect telemetry Number of processor cores Installed memoryTable of requirements
  9. Note: You need additional storage for log file collection depending on the number of systems you must monitor and how often you want to collect the log files.
  10. Select the correct network connection for your environment.
  11. Select the "Use an existing virtual hard disk" option and browse to where you placed the extracted virtual hard drive and select it.
  12. Click Next and then if everything looks correct select Finish.
  13. Once the wizard finishes right click the newly created VM and select "Start"
  14. Wait until the VM comes up and then right click it and select "Connect"
  15. This opens the VM console.
  16. If everything worked correctly so far, you are at the License Agreement screen.
  17. You must accept the agreement in order to continue.
  18. Click inside the console window and type Alt A then Alt N
  19. You can also use tab to get to the wanted option and space to select/enter to activate options.
  20. This takes you to the Network Settings screen.
  21. You must edit the IP information here as SCG requires a static IP address in order for everything to properly connect.
  22. Alt i will open the Network Card Setup screen, here you must configure the settings to match your system requirements and set a proper hostname.
  23. Select Next to continue then verify that everything is correct and select Next again.
  24. The system goes through some configuration and Initializing screens and opens a notice stating that files in the /etc/ntp.conf directory have been changed, select Continue.
  25. On the next screen set the Time Zone for the Zone that this installation will be covering.
  26. Next, set the password for the admin user.
  27. Now verify the admin username.

  29. Test your login with the username of root and the password that you set earlier.
  30. Once logged in you must reboot the VM, type reboot and press enter.
  31. Once the system comes back up to a login prompt login and tests your network connection by pinging an external system such as dell.com.
  32. Once you have verified that the network is connected properly open a web browser on a system that has network access to the SCG VM and enter the address of https:// (the IP address you gave the SCG vm):5700 so if your IP address is 192.168.1.10 then the address would be https://192.168.1.10:5700
  33. On initial launch the site needs configuration.
  34. On the presented web page, accept the agreement to continue.
  35. The next page will ask you to create an administrator password for access to the SCG-VE management site.
  36. Next, configure any proxy information that is needed, make sure to test the connection if a proxy is entered here.
  37. Now we will need the Access Key we got when we downloaded the VM along with the pin used to create it.
  38. Once entered and authenticated with Dell Connectivity Hub it will return your customer information used to register for the key. Make sure the information is correct, change and add any additional information making sure that the email address is correct and an active one that the Connectivity Hub can send status reports to as well as use for case management in case a support case is ever needed.
  39. Click next and if you get a green box stating your gateway is now registered click finish.
Now you can go to the configuration process found here:
