    OpenManage Enterprise Integration for VMware vCenter (OMEVV)

    Bare-metals deployment basics:

    • Deploys Unconfigured servers(servers not Managed in OMEVV)

    • Existing Managed servers can be repurposed, but they must be Un-Managed from OMEVV first 

    • Multiple servers can be discovered by proving a starting IP and an ending IP for the range

    Bare-metals deployment pre-requisites:

    1. ESXI ISO profile mapped using a share type either CIF or NFS
    2. ESXI Network Configuration for the soon to be deployed host (IP must have network access to the OpenManage Enterprise appliance)
    3. A server to deploy with an Advanced Plus License

    Bare-metals deployment Process - Mapping an ISO:

    1. Access OMEVV using the vCenter menu and selecting OpenManage Enterprise Plugin
    2. Click Compliance & Deployment
    3. Click ISO Profile
    4. Click Create New Profile
    5. Map an ESXi ISO using CIF or NFS shares using the corresponding credentials if needed
    6. Select an ESXI version that correlates to the ESXI ISO version

    Bare-metals deployment Process - Adding Servers for deployment:

    If servers are NOT present in OpenManage Enterprise (OME):

    1. Click Deployment
    2. Click Discover Bare-metal
    3. Provide a name for the Bare-metal Discovery Job
    4. Provide IDRAC IP address
    5. Provide credentials for the DRAC 

    Once servers are discovered:

    1. Click Add Bare-metals
    2. Select one or more servers from the list and click OK
    3. Refresh the view to show the selections

    Bare-metals deployment Process - Image deployment:

    1. Select one or more Bare-metal servers for deployment
    2. Click Deploy
    3. If a System Profile which contains DRAC and BIOS settings is needed, it can be created. This step is optional.
    4. Select the ISO Profile
    5. Click Get Started
    6. Select the Server or Servers to be deployed and click Next
    7. Select the vCenter for the server to join after deployment
    8. Select ISO Profile
    9. Select Installation Target First Boot Device and click Next
    10. Provide ESXi Host Credentials and click Next
    11. Configure Host Network Settings
    12. Select a network interface under NIC for Management tasks. The NIC must be up.  Click Next.
    13. Provide a Deployment Job Name and click Next
    14. Select Run Now and click Finish

    Bare-metals deployment Process - Job Status:

    • Job details can be observed by clicking Jobs, then Deployment
    • Job progress or errors can be checked under Logs
    • The DRAC virtual console can be used to observe the process or check for any errors 

     

    Note: ESXI Management NIC used during deployment must have access to the OpenManage Enterprise (OME) appliance IP address network segment.
