Instructions

From the Administration Guide:

DD6300 systems support the option to use enclosures with 4 TB drives ( 43.6 TiB) at 50% utilization (21.8 TiB) in the active
tier.

The following guidelines apply to using partial capacity shelves with DD6300 systems:
NOTE: The available capacity displayed after configuring storage is the amount available for each tier. It is a different
amount than what is displayed under Data Management > File System.
● The available licensed capacity must be exactly 21.8 TiB.
● No other enclosure types or drive sizes are supported for use at partial capacity.
● A partial shelf can only exist in the Active tier.
● Only one partial ES30 can exist in the Active tier.
● Once a partial shelf exists, no additional ES30s can be configured until the partial shelf is added at full capacity. You must
license enough additional capacity to use the remaining 21.8 TiB of the partial shelf.
● If the available capacity exceeds 21.8 TB, you cannot add a partial shelf.
● Deleting a 21 TiB license does not automatically convert a fully used shelf to a partial shelf. You must remove the shelf and
add it back as a partial shelf.

DD6900 systems support the option to use enclosures with 4 TB drives ( 43.6 TiB) at 25% utilization (10.9 TiB), 50% utilization
(21.8 TiB), or 75% (32.7 TiB) in the active tier.
The following guidelines apply to using partial capacity shelves with DD6900 systems:
● DS60 or DS600 disk packs and ES40 shelves must be fully licensed before adding another partial shelf license.
● A partial shelf can only exist in the Active tier.
● Only one partial shelf can exist in the Active tier.
● Once a partial shelf exists, no additional partial shelves or packs can be configured until the partial shelf is added at full
capacity. You must license enough additional capacity to use the remaining capacity of the partial shelf.
● Controller upgrades from a DD6900 system cannot be completed while a partial shelf exists on the system.
● Storage migration cannot be completed while a partial shelf exists on the system.

Solution:
DDOS version must be DDOS 7.3 or later to support adding a partial shelf. DDOS version must be 7.5 or later to add a quarter shelf.

The license capacity needs to be correct in order to successfully add a partial shelf. 25% utilization (10.9 TiB), 50% utilization
(21.8 TiB), or 75% (32.7 TiB) in the active tier. Once the license is applied, use the storage add command to add the hardware to the active tier, then do a filesys expand

1. Apply License File with partial shelf license capacity

2. Run #storage add tier active enclosure <#>

3. #filesys expand

After successfully added a partial shelf #storage show all will show the enclosure as "Expandable"

After the add you should see this output

Expanding a partial shelf from 25%, 50% or 75% utilization to 100%:

The license file determines the partial shelf capacity. The license must reflect the additional capacity and have the RAW capacity of a fully populated shelf when expanding a partial shelf to a full shelf. Once the license is applied, you can run the following command to use the shelf:

#filesys expand

If you receive the following error when expanding the partial shelf and have confirmed that the license is correct. Contact Dell Support for a resolution:
