Instructions

If the ping does not work and the issue stays consistent, see below KB article for troubleshooting:
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000052254/connectrix-cisco-mds-series-how-to-troubleshoot-switch-unreachable-problems

If the switch is not accessible randomly, you can go to below checks:
  1. Connect to the switch by console and ping the gateway.
  2. Do a traceroute to the switch IP –> find the last hop for the switch.
  3. Then, login to that layer 3 device –> the last hop before the switch
    • #show arp or #show ip arp –> look for the switch IP
  4. What is the MAC address for that IP?
  5. Connect to the MDS switch –> check the MAC address and confirm if they are the same as from Step-4.
  6. If they are not the same, then ARP table is getting populated with the wrong MAC address and the most common cause is duplicate IP.
  7. Engage the IP network team for the next action.
