Instructions

Live Optics collections are configured to run for a maximum of 24 hours by default. For users who want to run a collection for a longer duration, it can be run in Extended Mode. This article describes how to run a collection for up to 7 days.

Prerequisites:

  • This procedure is for Live Optics Linux software and servers running a supported version of Linux OS.
  • This article assumes that liveoptics_x86.tar.gz or liveoptics_x86_64.tar.gz has been downloaded to the source computer or server.

 Instructions:

  1. Open a terminal and navigate to the directory where the Live Optics software is saved.
  2. Extract the contents of Live Optics tar.gz files using your preferred software.
  3. Run Live Optics in Extended Mode by entering the following command:
    ./liveoptics --extended or -e
    • You will also be prompted to accept the EULA for the Live Optics software.

  4. After accepting the EULA, you are prompted to verify your credentials. You must then choose if you want to have the Live Optics collector stream your data back to the Live Optics data center.
  5. Once Live Optics has detected the block level storage on the local server, a prompt displays requesting to monitor the disks during the Live Optics session. Choose the option that best suits your requirements.
  6. To change the duration of the Live Optics collection beyond 24 hours, choose Option 3 and enter the number of hours you want Live Optics to run.
  7. Complete the remaining configuration options. The most popular option is "(5) Add a remote machine to be monitored using a remote shell." This allows additional Linux or UNIX-based servers to be added to Live Optics before starting the collector session. Once all configuration options have been completed, enter Option 1 to begin the Live Optics session.
