Symptoms

Microsoft has released Windows 11 hotfix KB5074109 on January 13, 2026. Some computers may stop responding or encounter a blue screen STOP error after installing this hotfix. Not all computers encounter these failures.

Check if the computer has installed KB5074109:

  1. Start the computer and go into the operating system.
  2. Press Win+R keys and enter Winver, then press the Enter key.
  3. Check that the OS Build version is 26200.7623 or 26100.7623.

Cause

The issue is caused by Microsoft hotfix KB5074109.

Resolution

Note: Before starting the update, perform the following:
  • Back up all personal data. For more information, refer to Back Up and Recovery.
  • Ensure that power remains connected to the desktop.

Installing KB5077181 (26200.7840 and 26100.7840) resolves the issue:

  1. Press Win + S keys to launch Windows Settings.
  2. Go to Windows Update, click Check for updates to install the KB5077181 (26200.7840 and 26100.7840).
  3. After Windows Update is completed, press Win+R and enter Winver, press the Enter key to confirm the version is 26200.7840, 26100.7840, or later.
