Symptómy

  • A Microsoft SQL server backup is configured using the NetWorker VMware Protection (NVP) vProxy appliance.
  • The Protection Policy's backup action is configured with the "Application Consistency" option enabled to perform SQL app-consistent (MSVMAPPAGENT) backups.
  • The backup fails with the following error reported in the backup action logs:
Error message received from backup request
  • The vProxy's /opt/emc/vproxy/runtime/logs/vbackup/vbackupd-engine.log shows similar error messaging:
vproxy02:~ # tail -n 15 /opt/emc/vproxy/runtime/logs/vbackupd/vbackupd-engine.log

  • Image backups of the VM which do not use "Application Consistency" complete successfully.

Príčina

The backup action in the NetWorker Protection Policy is missing the SQL instance user login in the "Application Consistency" settings.

Riešenie

Update the backup action to include a user with System Administrator rights:

Screenshot showing sys admin user name added

The user account specified should have sysadmin rights. This can be confirmed in the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) on the SQL VM:

Confirm the user account has sys admin rights

Ďalšie informácie

MSVMAPPAGENT logs can be found on the SQL VM under C:\Program Files\DPSAPPS\MSVMAPPAGENT\logs
