NOTE: Be sure to bookmark this article as restarting the computer will be necessary.
  1. Make sure the camera is enabled in the BIOS of your Dell notebook.
    1. Restart or power on the computer.
    2. When you see the Dell logo during POST, press the F2 key once a second to enter the System Setup.
      NOTE: When the computer boots into Windows, restart the computer and try again.
    3. Click the plus "+" sign next to System Configuration.
    4. Highlight Miscellaneous Devices.
    5. Make sure there is a checkmark next to Enable Camera.
    6. Click Apply and confirm the changes if asked.
    7. Click Exit and the computer will restart.
    8. Check to see if you get the same error if so continue to the next step.

  2. Check the camera privacy settings.
    1. Press and hold the Windows (SLN322244_en_US__2iC_Windows_Key_BD_v4) key, and then press the q key.
    2. In the Search box, type privacy settings.
    3. Click or touch Privacy settings (system settings) in the list of programs.
    4. Click or touch the Camera.
    5. Click or touch Change, and make sure the setting is On.
    6. Under Allow apps to access your camera, make sure the setting is set to On.
    7. Under Choose which app can access your camera, make sure the setting next to Camera is On.
    8. Close the Setting window.
    9. Check to see if you get the same error if so continue to the next step.

  3. Reset the camera application.
    1. Press and hold the Windows (SLN322244_en_US__2iC_Windows_Key_BD_v4) key, and then press the q key.
    2. In the Search box, type camera.
    3. Right-click Camera, and then select app settings.
    4. Click or touch Reseat, and then confirm you want to reset the camera app by clicking or touching Reseat.
    5. After the process finishes, close the Settings window.
    6. Check to see if you get the same error if so continue to the next step.

  4. Run the Video playback troubleshooter.
    1. Press and hold the Windows (SLN322244_en_US__2iC_Windows_Key_BD_v4) key, and then press the q key.
    2. In the Search box, type troubleshooter.
    3. Click or touch Troubleshoot (system settings) in the list of programs.
    4. Under Find and fix other problems, click or touch Video Playback, and then click or touch Run the troubleshooter, and then follow the prompts.
    5. After the troubleshoot finishes, close the Settings window.
    6. Check to see if you get the same error if so continue to the next step.

  5. Reinstall the webcam drivers.
    1. Close any applications that are using the webcam (this may include web pages). Save and close any applications that you are working on as the computer will need to restart.
    2. Press and hold the Windows (SLN322244_en_US__2iC_Windows_Key_BD_v4) key, and then press the q key.
    3. In the search box, type device manager.
    4. Select Device Manager (Control panel) in the list of results.
    5. Touch or click the plus (+) sign to the left of Cameras or Imaging Devices.
      NOTES:

      When there is not a listing for Cameras or Imaging Devices.

      1. Click or touch View across the top, and make sure there is a checkmark next to Show hidden devices.
      2. When there is still no listing for Cameras or Imaging Devices, "Contact Technical Support."
    6. Touch and hold or right-click Integrated Webcam or USB camera.
    7. Touch or click Uninstall.
    8. Confirm the uninstall process by clicking OK.
    9. Once uninstalled, restart the computer.
      NOTE: Windows 10 will automatically detect and install the Webcam drivers.
    10. Check to see if you get the same error, when you still get the error, the webcam software should also be uninstalled and reinstalled. Contact the Webcam software provider for assistance.

  6. Run the Dell PC hardware diagnostics on your internal Webcam.
    1. Browse to the Dell Product Support page.
    2. You have three options to get to the product support page for your computer.
      • Touch or click the listing for your computer under THIS PC.
        NOTE: When there is no listing for your computer under THIS PC, you can touch or click Download & Install SupportAssist, which will automatically identify your computer for you. Follow the prompts to download and install SupportAssist.
      • Enter the Service Tag, Dell EMC Product ID, or Model, and then touch or click the Search button, and select your computer from the list.
      • Touch or click Browse all products: Select the type of device you have, the brand name, and then the product model.
        NOTE: For more information, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article, How to Determine the Model Number of Your Dell Computer.
    3. When on the product support page for your computer, touch or click the DIAGNOSTICS tab.
    4. Touch or click the down arrow next to Select individual components under the Custom Component Test.
    5. Touch or click to check the box next to Video capture.
    6. Touch or click Run Your Test. The test runs, and the results are shown.

  7. Run the automated tools provided in the SupportAssist tool foe your internal Webcam (this will determine whether any newer drivers are available, and check for performance issues).
    1. Press and hold the Windows (SLN322244_en_US__2iC_Windows_Key_BD_v4) key, and then press the q key.
    2. In the search box, type supportassist.
    3. Select SupportAssist (App) in the list of results.
      NOTE: When SupportAssist does not show up in the search results, browse to the "SupportAssist for PCs and tablets" page for information about downloading and installing SupportAssist.
    4. Touch or click Start Now to run all the tests.
      NOTE: You can touch or click the down arrow and then run the individual test, but we recommend running all the tests.
    5. SupportAssist runs the tests one by one and provides the results.

  8. Run Windows updates.

    Update your computer to the latest version of Windows. For more information, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article "Windows Update: FAQ."
