1. Pairing Overview

Wireless and Bluetooth connection takes place between the device or a dongle adapter when attached to the personal computer. Without this process taking place, the device will not function properly with the computer.

An easy way to remember which adapter needs which type of pairing is this:

  • Bluetooth adapters can only be paired within the operating system.

  • External adapters (USB dongle) depending on their configuration will be paired outside or inside the operating system.

NOTE: For the Keyboard and Mice that are listed in (Table 1), see the Dell Knowledge Base article Dell Peripheral Manager Usage and Troubleshooting on how to pair, unpair, and configure your keyboard or mouse.
NOTE: The Dell Peripheral Manager software can also help identify what model of Keyboard or Mice you have if it supports your hardware.

2. Connecting Using Sync Buttons

NOTE: For generic instructions on how to pair Bluetooth devices, see the following Dell Knowledge Base articles.

The Dell Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse must be paired both outside the operating system and then again after the operating system loads. Below are the instructions for connecting the keyboard and mouse outside of the operating system. This works even if you have previously connected the keyboard or mouse and they are no longer paired.

NOTE: If you are having trouble pairing the mouse or keyboard before Windows completes loading, try creating a password for the user account. This way the operating system will not load until the user inputs the password. This gives you more time to pair the keyboard and mouse outside the operating system.

NOTE: Once the keyboard and mouse are paired outside of Windows, you must pair the keyboard and mouse again once Windows loads. Failure to pair the keyboard and mouse in Windows can cause lock-ups and the keyboard and mouse might not function correctly.
