Removing keyboard assembly

About this task

NOTE The keyboard and the keyboard tray together are called the keyboard assembly.

Steps

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the base cover.
  3. Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on the system board.
  4. Remove the memory module.
  5. Remove the PCIe SSD.
  6. Remove the SATA SSD.
  7. Remove the WLAN card.
  8. Remove the WWAN card.
  9. Remove the heatsink assembly.
  10. Remove the system board.
  11. Disconnect the cables from the palmrest end:
    1. touchpad and USH board cables [1]
    2. keyboard backlight cable [2]
    3. keyboard cable [3]

  12. To remove the keyboard assembly:
    NOTE To identify the screws, see screw list.
    1. Remove the M2 x 2.5 screws (19) that secure the keyboard [1].
    2. Lift the keyboard assembly from the chassis [2].

  13. Remove the screws (5) that secures the keypad to the keyboard chassis and lift the keyboard [1,2].
