Removing system board

Steps

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
    NOTE If your computer is shipped with a WWAN card, then the removal of a blank SIM card tray is a requirement.
  2. Remove the:
    1. SIM card
    2. base cover
    3. battery
    4. memory module
    5. PCle SSD
    6. SATA SSD
    7. WLAN card
    8. WWAN card
    9. heat sink assembly

To identify the screws, see screw list

  1. To remove the memory module bracket:
    1. Remove the M2 x 3 screw (1) that secure memory module bracket to the system board [1].
      NOTE The DDR ESD bracket is a pre-removal part when replacing the system board. Ensure that the DDR ESD bracket is reinstalled to the new replacement system board.
    2. Lift the memory module bracket from the system board [2].

  2. To disconnect the eDP cable:
    1. Un route the WLAN and WWAN cables from the routing channels [1].
    2. Remove the M2 x 3 screw (2) and lift the eDP cable bracket that secures to the system board [2,3].
    3. Disconnect the clip that secures the cable to the system board [4].
    4. Remove the adhesive tape that secures the eDP cable [5].
    5. Disconnect the eDP cable from the system board [6].

  3. Disconnect the cables:
    NOTE To disconnect the speaker, LED board, coin cell battery and the power connector port cables, use a plastic scribe to release the cables from the connectors. Do not pull the cable as it may result in breakage
    1. speaker cable [1]
    2. LED board cable [2]
    3. coin cell battery cable [3]
    4. touchpad cable and USH board cable [4]
    5. power connector port [5]

  4. To remove the system board:
    1. Remove the M2 x 3 screws (8) that secure the system board [1].
      NOTE Ensure to remove the USB Type-C bracket from system board.
    2. Lift the system board away from the computer [2].

  5. To remove the USB Type-C port from system board:
    1. Flip the system board, peel off the tapes and the screw securing the USB Type-C bracket.
    2. Lift the USB Type-C port away from the system board.
