Issues of Server Administrator on VMware ESX Operating Systems

  • DF354388: Remote Server Administrator Web Server connection to a managed node hangs, if a redundant virtual disk containing syslog dumps fails.
    • If you configure the syslog to store logs on a remote virtual disc (VD), and remove the remote VD without reconfiguring the syslog to a valid location, the Server Administrator web server screen stops responding.
    • To continue using the Server Administrator Web server, restart the management services on the managed node.
  • BITS072069: On ESX/ESXi Operating Systems, Server Administrator configuration changes are not persisted after an unclean shutdown.
    • If the server abruptly reboots, configuration changes to Server Administrator Preferences are not retained on VMware ESX or ESXi operating systems. Once an hour, VMware runs a scheduled backup to update any configuration changes to the installed applications (VIBs). For more information, refer to the Knowledge Base article at - http://Kb.vmware.com/kb/2001780
  • BITS119710: On systems running the VMware ESXi operating system, the TOE status of a network controller is not available.
  • On ESXi 5.5 and later operating systems, NIC cards using Native drivers display limited information on Server Administrator.
  • JIT-59889 : It is recommended to wait several minutes after an ESXi host has completed bootup before attempting login from a remote OMSA web GUI. Otherwise the web login will fail as SFCB services load OMSA on the ESXi host and this may also cause some loss of semaphores from the hypervisor's semaphore pool. If the ESXi system log indicates "no more semaphores available" then a suspension of virtual machines and complete reboot of the ESXi host is recommended to prevent overall hypervisor stability issues.
  • JIT-72246 : After uninstalling the Live VIB on ESXi OS 6.0 U3 and later systems, some of the folders including INI files may not be removed during cleanup in the /etc/cim/dell and /opt/dell folders.

However, these folders do not cause any functional limitation.

  • JIT-73658 : In R940 server, AIC placed in slot 3 shows as slot 0 in OMSA 9.1.0 installed on ESXi 6.5 U1 OS.

Restart OMSA service on the ESXI system to enumerate the Slot instances properly.
