How to replace the Heat Sink on a Dell Pro 14 Essential PV14250

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Heat Sink and a PV14250 Dell Pro 14 Essential. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable and reinstalling them.

Removal

Base Cover

1. Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest.
3. Remove the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest.
4. Pry the base cover near the top left corner of the hinge. Pry from recess points near the hinges.
5. Loosen the base cover by working on the left, right and, bottom sides to open the base cover.
6. Lift the base cover off the system.

Battery Cable

1. Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
3. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.

Heat Sink

1. Identify the heatsink highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the screws that secure the heatsink to the system board. Loosen in reverse order.
3. Remove the heatsink from the system board.
4. Use the alcohol pad to clean the system board and heatsink (as shown in the video).

Install

Heat Sink

1. Identify the heatsink location highlighted in blue.
2. Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
3. Install the heatsink on the system board and align the screw holes.
4. Tighten the screws that secure the heatsink. Tighten in order. Do not over tighten.

Battery Cable

1. Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
2. Connect the battery cable to the system board.

Base Cover

1. Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the base cover and press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place.
3. Tighten the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest.
4. Install the screws that secure the base cover to the plam rest.
