How to replace the Palm Rest Assembly on a DellPro13Plus PB13250 V Series

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Palm Rest Assembly and a DellPro13Plus PB13250 VSeries. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, Battery, WWAN Card 5G, Solid State Drive, Speakers, Fan, Display Cable, Display Assembly, System Board Assembly, Smart Card Reader, USH Daughter Board, I/O Board, WLAN antenna modules, Power Button, Keyboard Assembly and reinstalling them.

Removal

1. Base Cover
   • Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
   • Loosen the captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
   • Using a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover from the recesses that are located in the U-shaped indents at the top edge of the base cover near the hinges.
   • Lift the base cover off the palm rest assembly.
   • Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
   • Align the base cover with the screw holes, place the base cover on the palm rest assembly, and snap into place.
   • Tighten the captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
2. Battery Cable
   • Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
   • Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
   • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.
3. Battery
   • Identify the battery highlighted in blue.
   • Loosen the captive screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
   • Lift the battery off the palm rest assembly.
   • Flip the battery.
   • Unroute the battery cable from the routing guides on the battery.
   • Disconnect and remove the battery cable from the connector on the battery.
   • Identify the battery location highlighted in blue.
   • Place and connect the battery cable to its connector on the battery.
   • Route the battery cable through the routing guides on the battery.
   • Flip the battery.
   • Align it with the screw holes and place the battery into the slot on the palm rest assembly.
   • Tighten the captive screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
4. WWAN Card 5G
   • Identify the 5G WWAN card highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screws that secure the 5G WWAN card bracket to the system.
   • Remove the 5G WWAN card bracket from the 5G WWAN card.
   • Lift the shield off the 5G WWAN card.
   • Loosen the captive screw that secures the WWAN bracket to the system.
   • Lift the WWAN card bracket from the WWAN card.
   • Disconnect the antenna cables from the 5G WWAN card.
   • Slide and lift the 5G WWAN card off the I/O board.
   • Identify the 5G WWAN card location highlighted in blue.
   • Slide and install the 5G WWAN card into the slot on the I/O board.
   • Connect the black cable to the ANT3 D/G.
   • Connect the blue cable to the ANT2 M2.
   • Connect the orange cable to the ANT1 M1.
   • Connect the white cable to the ANT0 M.
   • Align and place the WWAN card bracket on the WWAN card.
   • Tighten the captive screw that secures the WWAN bracket to the system.
   • Place the shield over the 5G WWAN card and secure it in place.
   • Place the 5G WWAN card bracket on the 5G WWAN card.
   • Install the screws that secure the 5G WWAN card bracket to the system.
5. Solid State Drive
6. Speakers
   • Identify the speakers highlighted in blue.
   • Disconnect the speaker cable from the I/O board.
   • Remove the screws that secure the speakers to the palm rest assembly.
   • Unroute the speaker cable from the routing guides on the palm rest assembly.
   • Lift the speakers along with their cable off the palm rest assembly.
   • Identify the speakers location highlighted in blue.
   • Using the alignment posts, place the speakers into the slots on the palm rest assembly.
   • Route the speaker cable through the routing channels on the palm rest assembly.
   • Install the screws that secure the speakers to the palm rest assembly.
   • Connect the speaker cable to the I/O board.
7. Fan
   • Identify the fan highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screws that secure the 5G WWAN card bracket to the system.
   • Remove the 5G WWAN card bracket from the 5G WWAN card.
   • Remove the screw that secures the WLAN card bracket.
   • Remove the WLAN card bracket from the WLAN card.
   • Disconnect the WLAN cables from the WLAN card.
   • Unroute the WLAN cables from the routing guides on the palm rest assembly.
   • Disconnect the fan cable from the I/O board.
   • Remove the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.
   • Remove the fan from the palm rest assembly.
8. Display Cable
   • Identify the display cable highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screws that secure the display cable bracket to the system board.
   • Lift the display cable bracket off the system board.
   • Peel the tapes that secure the display and sensor board cables to the system.
   • Lift the black flap and disconnect the sensor board cable from the system board.
   • Lift the black flap and disconnect the display cable from the system board.
   • Unroute the display and sensor board cables from the routing guides on the system.
   • Identify the display cable location highlighted in blue.
   • Route the display and sensor board cables through the routing guides on the system.
   • Connect the display cable on the system board and place the black flap to cover the display cable.
   • Connect the sensor board cable on the system board and place the black flap to cover the sensor board cable.
   • Adhere the tapes to secure the display and sensor board cables to the system.
   • Install the display cable bracket on the system board.
   • Install the screws that secure the display cable bracket to the system board.
9. Display Assembly
   • Identify the display assembly highlighted in blue.
   • Open the display assembly at an angle of 90 degrees and place the system on flat surface as shown.
   • Remove the screws that secure the left and right display hinges to the palm rest assembly.
   • Remove the display assembly off the palm rest assembly.
   • Identify the display assembly location highlighted in blue.
   • Align it with the screw holes and place the display assembly on the palm rest assembly.
   • Install the screws that secure the left and right display hinges to the palm rest assembly.
   • Close the display assembly onto the palm rest assembly and place the system on flat surface as shown.
10. System Board Assembly
    • Identify the system board assembly highlighted in blue.
    • Remove the screw that secure the WLAN bracket to the system board.
    • Lift the WLAN bracket off the system board.
    • Disconnect the WLAN cables from the WLAN card.
    • Lift the latch and disconnect USH daughter board flexible flat cable from the system board.
    • Partly peel the mylar to access the screws on the middle bracket (AB10) that connects the I/O board and system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screws that secures the system board and I/O board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Slide and lift the system board assembly off the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the system board assembly location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the system board assembly on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secures the system board and I/O board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Adhere the mylar to the screws on the middle bracket (AB10) that connects the I/O board and system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Connect USH daughter board flexible flat cable on the system board. Close the latch to secure.
11. Connect white cable to "MAIN"
12. Connect black cable to "AUX"
    • Install the WLAN bracket on the system board.
    • Install the screw that secure the WLAN bracket to the system board.
13. Smart Card Reader
    • Identify the smart card reader highlighted in blue.
    • Peel back the USH daughter board flexible flat cable from the system.
    • Lift the latch and disconnect the smart card reader cable from the USH board.
    • Remove the screws that secure the smart card reader to the palm rest assembly.
    • Lift the smart card reader along with its cable off the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the smart card reader location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the smart card reader on its slot on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the smart card reader to the palm rest assembly.
    • Connect the smart card cable on the USH board and close the latch to secure.
    • Adhere the USH daughter board flexible flat cable on the system.
14. USH Daughter Board
    • Identify the USH daughter board highlighted in blue.
    • Lift the latch and disconnect USH daughter board flexible flat cable from the system board.
    • Peel back the USH daughter board flexible flat cable from the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screws that secure the USH daughter board in place.
    • Lift the USH daughter board off the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the USH daughter board location highlighted in blue.
    • Place the USH daughter board on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the USH daughter board in place.
    • Adhere the USH daughter board flexible flat cable on the palm rest assembly.
    • Connect USH daughter board flexible flat cable on the system board. Close the latch to secure.
15. I/O Board
    • Identify the I/O board highlighted in blue.
    • Disconnect fan and speaker cables from the I/O board.
    • Lift the latch and disconnect the touchpad cable from the I/O board.
    • Remove the screws that secure the I/O board in place.
    • Remove the screw that secure the I/O board in place.
    • Slide and lift the I/O board away from the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the I/O board location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the I/O board on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screw that secure the I/O board in place.
    • Install the screws that secure the I/O board in place.
    • Connect the touchpad cable on the I/O board. Close the latch to secure.
    • Connect the fan and speaker cables on the I/O board.
16. WLAN antenna modules
    • Identify the WLAN antenna modules highlighted in blue.
    • Unroute the WLAN antenna cables from the routing guides on the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screws that secure the WLAN antenna modules to the palm rest assembly.
    • Lift the WLAN antenna modules off the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the WLAN antenna modules location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the WLAN antenna modules on to its slot on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the WLAN antenna modules to the palm rest assembly.
    • Route the WLAN antenna cables to the routing guides on the palm rest assembly.
17. Power Button
    • Identify the power button highlighted in blue.
    • Remove the screws that secure the power button to the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the power button off the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the power button location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the power button on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the power button to the palm rest assembly.
18. Keyboard Assembly
    • Identify the keyboard assembly highlighted in blue.
    • Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard and backlight cables from the touchpad.
    • Remove the screws that secure the keyboard assembly to the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screw that secure the keyboard assembly to the palm rest assembly.
    • Lift the keyboard assembly off the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the keyboard assembly location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the keyboard assembly on the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screw that secure the keyboard assembly to the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the keyboard assembly to the palm rest assembly.
    • Connect the keyboard and backlight cables on the touchpad and close the latch to secure.
19. Palm Rest Assembly
    • After all the parts are removed, the palm rest assembly is remaining. No further steps are needed.
    • Identify the palm rest assembly and place on a clean, flat surface.

   • Identify the heat sink location highlighted in blue.
   • Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
   • Place the heat sink on the system board and align with the screw holes.
   • Tighten the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Tighten in order. Do not over tighten.
   • Adhere the tapes to secure the display and sensor board cables to the heat sink.
7. Smart Card Reader
   • Identify the heat sink location highlighted in blue.
   • Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
   • Place the heat sink on the system board and align with the screw holes.
   • Tighten the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Tighten in order. Do not over tighten.
   • Adhere the tapes to secure the display and sensor board cables to the heat sink.

    • Identify the fan location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the fan on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.
    • Connect the fan cable on the I/O board.

12. Connect white cable to "MAIN"

    • Place the WLAN card bracket on the WLAN card.
    • Install the screw that secures the WLAN card bracket.
    • Place the 5G WWAN card bracket on the 5G WWAN card.
    • Install the screws that secure the 5G WWAN card bracket to the system.
14. Speakers
    • Identify the fan location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the fan on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.
    • Connect the fan cable on the I/O board.
    • Route the WLAN cables through the routing guides on the palm rest assembly.
15. Connect white cable to "MAIN"
16. Connect black cable to "AUX"
    • Place the WLAN card bracket on the WLAN card.
    • Install the screw that secures the WLAN card bracket.
    • Place the 5G WWAN card bracket on the 5G WWAN card.
    • Install the screws that secure the 5G WWAN card bracket to the system.
17. Solid State Drive

    • Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
    • Slide and install the SSD into the slot on the system board. Install the SSD mounting bracket if needed.
    • Install the screw that secures the SSD to the system board.
    • Place the bracket into the SSD slot on the system board.
    • Install the screws that secure the SSD bracket to the system board.
19. Battery
    • Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
    • Slide and install the SSD into the slot on the system board. Install the SSD mounting bracket if needed.
    • Install the screw that secures the SSD to the system board.
    • Place the bracket into the SSD slot on the system board.
    • Install the screws that secure the SSD bracket to the system board.
20. Battery Cable
    • Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
    • Connect the battery cable on the system board.
21. Base Cover
    • Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
    • Connect the battery cable on the system board.
