How to replace the Memory module on a XPS 8960

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Memory module and a XPS 8960. The procedure will also include removing the Left side cover and reinstalling them.

Removal

Left side cover

Identify the left side cover highlighted in blue.

Loosen the captive screw that secures the left side cover release latch to the chassis.

Pull the left side cover release latch to release the left side cover away from the chassis.

Remove the left side cover from the chassis.

Memory module

Identify the memory module highlighted in blue.

Pry the securing clips from both side of the memory module until the memory module pops up.

Remove the memory module from the memory module slot.

Install

Memory module

Identify the memory module location highlighted in blue.

Align the notch on the memory module with the tab on the slot.

Press the memory module down until it clicks into place.

Left side cover

Identify the left side cover location highlighted in blue.

Slide the bottom edge of the left side cover into the chassis.

Push the left side cover into place.

Tighten the captive screw that secures the left side cover release latch to the chassis.
