Question

My Dimension Lapton has somehow lost its IP Address and so therefore I cannot connect to the internet. How do I repair this?

What kind of network are you connecting to - your own router or a wireless hotspot?  What happens if you open Network Connections, right click your wireless connection and select Repair?  Do you get an IP address if you reboot your computer?  To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.   Steve

Yes, it most certainly does have something to do with your network not picking up an IP address.  It is preventing your network from picking up an IP address.    Steve

Try downloading and running winsockfix for Windows XP from the Here   Steve

But you are connecting to this forum aren't you?  That means you are connected to the internet.  Download the file on the computer on which you are reading this message.  Copy it to some kind of removable media, then walk that removable media to the laptop, copy the file to the laptop, and run it from there.   Steve
