Inspiron G3 15-3579, randomly freezes

My laptop that I bought back in August has this reoccurring problem that occurs more and more frequently. It randomly freezes and nothing works, not even ctrl+alt+delete. However if i simply unplug the power supply or shut the lid and reopen it, it works perfectly fine. Anyone else notice this problem or know a solution?

Current Config:

Intel i7-8750h

1050 ti

PC 401 NVME SK hynix 512 GB

Hey, how are you guys doing with your G3s? Just a quick update since the last reply I sent almost a month ago. Ever since then I was still experiencing the freezing but in my occasion is has been minimized. I believe I've only experienced it maybe once or twice since my last reply to this thread. For me this is fine rather than freezing everyday when using it. Bottom line is, it hasn't been completely resolved yet but it has been minimized by a great amount. It's sad this has to be an issue.

I'm having the same issue. Going to try disabling turbo boost and installing the older Intel HD driver, and see if that helps.

Yeah, same goes with my G3, it's sill freezing but has been minimized. bottom line in here is that the issue has not been completely resolved.

DISCONNECTION PRINTER WHEN NOT IN USE! SOLUTION??? I want to let you all know this has nothing to do with the lid being open or closed. I always have my lid closed as I use an external monitor. I've experienced the freeze 36 times in about 10 weeks since I purchased my Dell Dec 18, 2019 (according to my event log which logs each crash and hard-cold reboot when I hold down the power key until machine turns off). When I experience the freeze I hear a Windows notification (but no notification) then the monitor freezes then turns off (no signal). When I open the lid it's also black but the machine is running and responds to keyboard input (error sounds when I bang the keyboard in frustration). I changed my default so that sounds play for all Windows events. I had already updated my BIOS and just installed the latest Dell BIOS package a few minutes ago. I noticed that all the versions were already current but that some new items were also being added (probably their attempts at a fix). This didn't help at all as it froze/locked as I was posting to this board. I don't usually have my printer connected, but I noticed that it was connected this time. Based on earlier replies in this thread and me experiencing this less often, I wonder if having the printer connected (esp older ones) is what triggers this freeze. Worth a try. I'll post an update if/when I experience another freeze. If you don't hear from me again then it means having the printer connected was the cause.

UPDATE: the freeze has nothing to do with the printer being connected. Looks like Dell sold a lemon. I'm considering asking for a replacement laptop that doesn't freeze and crash several times a day.

Has Dell anything to say about this? About the cause of the freezes? @samanon33 what kind of replacement would you ask? I have a G3 17 3779 and also having freezes. I installed Linux on the second HD now and mostly using that (no freezes there, but no Nvidia card either). In Windows 10, doing things like plugging USB sticks can trigger a freeze. Also, I never managed to open the Nvidia control panel, even if the icon shows up in the tray: I right click on it and nothing happens. Is all this supposed to be normal?

The laptop is still under warranty but what can I actually ask in this case? They don't even give an anwser here.

Terrible answer. Not much help. Mine has all the latest updates but does the same BS. Also, wifi refuses to save any passwords. I hate to say it but I really wish I'd bought a different PC.

I noticed that if I unplug the power supply it unfreezes.

Try unplugging the power supply. Makes no sense but it unfreezes mine.

people from Dell has no new feedback from this one, feels stupid that you need to unplug your charger or any whatever peripherals connected to your laptop just to make it unfreeze. this has been going on way back 2018. seriously DELL you gotta take a look at this and provide us some decent fix to this piece of thrash we bought from you.

I found a solution ! (Almost perfect)

Install a windows 10 "clean" from the Microsoft site.
With the exception of a transfer from the SD-Card to the computer with a small freeze, everything works much better!

1. Save all your personal data (of course)
2. Download the windows installer from the Microsoft website
3. Choose the CD / DVD version to download Windows 10 ISO
4. With the small software Rufus create a bootable USB key with Windows 10
5. Possibly recover Windows keys with ShowKeyPlus
5. Install Windows, it downloads itself the necessary drivers if needed
6. Do not install any additional DELL drivers

There you go !

About:

To boot from a USB key you have to change in the BIOS (F12) the default boot and add **** USB *****

Voilà !

Unplugging the power cord does help for mine. I noticed the problem corrected momentarily when I unplugged my Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse. Dell didn't do anything for me except lead me through BIOS updates which I already had. I'd have to threaten to *bleep* them to get a replacement.
