Dell 926 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Please follow the instructions below and then tell me what happens..

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

Disconnect your printer.

Download and run the patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch(a MUST on Vista machines) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

If using Windows 7 also try...Manual Printer Driver Removal

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

64-bit drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

I did all that and I'm still getting the alignment problem. The printer just keeps printing out alignment page after alignment page. Windows XP. What's the problem with this printer?

arizonamike629,

You are using Dell Series 9 ink cartridges, correct?

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 9 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 9 color cartridge.

You are using Dell Series 9 ink cartridges, correct?

Dell Series 9 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 9 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

It is possible to get a Dell Series 9 cartridge with a bad sensor. Contact the place of purchase for a replacement.

I need to find the paper holder for my 926 All-In-One printer.  Works great but the flap that holds paper down got broke.  Where can I get one.

josef,

Does the p[rinter turn on?

Does the power button blink? If so, then try looking where the paper leaves the tray and see of the switch is stuck.

JosefT,

Can you make a copy of a document when you put it under the glass? B&W and color?

JosefT,

You cannot copy a document under the glass? Watch the scanner bulb and make sure it's lit and moving.

Make and model of your computer and operating system will be helpful.

JosefT,

What you need to do is to reinstall the drivers usinf the instructions located at...

926 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

You have to disconect the printer, run the patch until prompted to restart your computer, then restart your computer. Then install the downloaded drivers. You'll get a message that the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time.

Or try using Simple OCR if you do not have the printers disk.

Hello,

We have a 926 printer and used to have it connected to a Windows Vista machine.  That machine died and now we have a Toshiba laptop running 32 bit Windows 7. We are plugging the printer into the laptop via usb.  The cable is a 5 foot cable and it did work fine from the Windows Vista machine.  The printer does physically print.  I can copy documents.

I have attempted to install the 926 drivers on the Windows 7 machine.  It kind of installs.  It installs the drivers and the Dell all in one application.  From this application I can scan.  So the printer and the laptop seem to be talking.  Problem it it won't print.  It gives an error saying "enable bidirectional communication with the printer".  I try to do this but when I go to the printer settings and the printer ports setting for USB it has that checkbox greyed out.

I have done the program that removes the Dell printer4 times now and have reinstalled using the Windows XP sp2 setting as described in this thead.  It always seems to install and I guess what it is actually doing is it installs the drivers for the scanner but must be failing on the drivers for the printer or something.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

s8epilot,

What do you mean...

It kind of installs.

You disconnected the printer, uninstalled the printer using the patch(printer cleanup utility), then restarted your computer when prompted. You then made sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal Then you installteh the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode, correct?

Did you try installing the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode?

You say you can scan but not print, correct? Virus program and firewalls sometimes block printers from communicating.

Also try...

Enable Bidirectional Support/Enable Biodirectional Support

Yes, that is what I attempted to do.  The last stage of that install program it allows a person to print a test page and that never prints.  It gives the error about the bidirectional deal.

Yes, I right clicked and set the mode to be Vista SP2.

I would like to try this but the check box in these suggestions is greyed out on this laptop.
