Android 5.0 Lollipop coming to the Venue 8 7840 Tablet.

It has been remarked on a few places in the forums that the Venue 8 7840 series doesn't ship with Lollipop.  I have been informed that Lollipop is expected to be available via OTA for the 7840 sometime in February

I will post again once I have specific dates when the OTA will be available and any information on the availability of Lollipop for other models of Dell tablets.

Currently the Lollipop OTA is expected on April 21 and it will be version 5.01.  I will post here if I receive any new information.

Disappointed that it's not landing in March but still great to have an ETA, thanks Terry! Do you know which version number of Lollipop we'll be receiving? Will it be 5.0, 5.0.1, 5.0.2, or 5.1?

Do you know if the memory leaks from 5.0-5.0.2 were caught and fixed in the Dell build?

Hi Terry,

Is that for only the Venue 8 7840? What about the Venue 8 3840?

I have been given a date for the release of Lollipop for the Venue 8.  It is now expected to be released on April the 21.  I will continue to post here with any additional news when it becomes available.

Forgive us if we don't trust you anymore.

First it's said that it will ship with loli, then it was to be by February, then March, Now april..

Should we all organize a microwave your "7840" day?

I spent $400 with the understanding that it would come with loli, or at-least soon..

I know it does not mean much, but i will never recommend a dell product to anybody ever.

Strangely enough, i had a suspicion this would happen.

Utterly disappointed again, congrats dell on the below average work.

Geez, make sure that you never buy a Samsung device either then.

Some of you act like spoiled children.

Well, yeah, of course, because it's Dell's fault that Lollipop hasn't been released yet.

I specifically bought this tablet based on this very forum post saying it would have lollipop in February.

Full disclosure - I love and think the Nvidia Shield is hands down the best tablet on the market.  I used my tax returns to buy it and it was everything I wanted in a tablet.  I had some car problems and needed to return the tablet to afford the repairs.

I was really bummed not having a powerful awesome tablet, and Dell had just sent me a President's day sale - with this tablet and cover being on sale.  I used my preferred account on credit to get a tablet.  This is a decent second best to the Shield, but the lack of updates has really made me nervous about my decision.

Dont be nervous..5.0 is half baked.

5.10 has all the warts removed. Wait and be Happy:emotion-1:.

Good, I don't know why they took that away in the first place, but I'm counting the days when it comes back.

Good. Will the problem with the editing of SD cards be fixed? I don't mind saying it really ticks me off that they decide what I can do with my own card.

Hopefully the April 21st release is 5.1.

Supposedly it was taken away for a variety of reasons including transfer speed and security.  I have tested it on a lollipop tablet and it works well, just go into your apps and move your already installed apps to the SD card.  OEM apps aren't going to move, and technically lollipop allows for the developer of the app to control if the app can be moved.  I haven't found one I couldn't move though.

JRANDALLG - I know the feature I am most looking forward to having on Android again is the option to install on SD cards, if that is what you were referring to.  That was lost in KitKat ( I think ) and it is regained in 5.+ Lollipop
