Dell desktop running extremely slow

Hi,

This problem occur when trying to install IE8 via Windows update of a Standalone download.

If you just keep going back to Windows update, IE8 will eventually be offered for installation, there is no need to download it.

Please reboot the system one more and then see if IE will open, if it will not, please post me a fresh set of DDS logs.

These last few tasks proved to be difficult for me.  I'm sorry.  I'm just not a computer wiz.  Anyway, I am using MSN explorer for my internet as Internet Explorer is a problem now.  I can't go to my start menu and go to microsoft update.  It just freezes up.  I was able to download updates via msn explorer though.  Below are the two logs from DDS.  I'm sure I've screwed something up, but hopefully you can diagnose my problem.

You are doing absolutely fine. The logs report that IE8 has successfully installed and is operational on the system.

Please tell me exactly what happens when you try to open IE form the desktop icon. If there are any error messages, please post them for, exactly as they are written.

When I go to Windows update, Internet explorer opens, but the screen stays blank white.  When I click the x to exit out, it says that internet explorer is not responding.  To return to Windows and check the status of the program click cancel.  If you choose to end the program immediately, you will lose any unsaved data.  To end the program now, click End Now.  So I End Now.  When I go directly to Internet Explorer (no icon on my desktop by the way) and try and open the program, same thing.  Blank white page.  Not responding.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad install of IE,

Please go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Choose a Restore Point > Choose the Restore Point name "internet Explorer 8", this will restore the system to before IE8 was installed. It may take some time so please be patient with it.

Once the restore process has completed, ( this may take three or four automatic reboots) please try opening IE and see if it is working.

If it is, please go to "Windows Update" via Start > All Programs, and install all the updates, at some point you will given the option to install IE8 again, please do so. Once all the updates are installed, let me know how things are running.

If after system restore, IE is still not working, please let me know.

Well...I tried the restore and it only allowed me to go back to yesterday.  I did everything it said to do and rebooted three times.  IE is still not working properly.  Below are the DDS logs as of about 3 minutes ago.

The only restore points that it is allowing me to use are 4/9, 10, 11.  I can't even go back to March.  Any other suggestions?

Have you found any suggestions for my computer?  I have tried to "restore" my computer but it won't let me go back far enough.  It still have IE 8 on it, which doesn't work for some reason.  It opens, then just sits with the hourglass and a white screen.

Sorry for the dealy in repling, its been a very busy week.

Please go to start > All Programs > Add/Remove Programs > In the top left corner, please put a check in the box next to "Show Updates" and then srcoll down and find the "internet Explorer 8" update,

. If there is a remove/uninstall button, please click it and uninstall IE8 that way.

Oh good!  I thought you bailed on me.  Thanks for getting back to me.

It let me uninstall some, but then I kept getting error messages about some files that were missing so it couldn't uninstall all updates or IE8 at all.  The two files it kept getting hung up on were eula and kb981332-ie8.cat.000.

So right now IE8 is still on and two ie updates.  It opens IE, and goes to my home page, but you can't go anywhere or do anything.  It just freezes right there.

This sentence worries me alot, You only had to uninstall the actual IE8 install, not everything with IE8 in the name. Were lucky the system is not damaged.

Not to worry,

Somewhere along the lines IE8 has become corrupt, lets try reinstalling over what we have and see if that works. Using another browser, please go here and download the IE8 installer to the DESKTOP. Please DO NOT RUN THE INSTALLER PLEASE JUST SAVE IT TO THE DESKTOP. Once the installer in on the desktop please post back letting me know and I will give you the next step.

Oh, I know you would never bail on me.  I was just kidding.  I'm sorry.  I truly hope I haven't created more problems here.

I have the installer in my downloads file.  (Which by the way has a lot of files in it that probably should be deleted).

What's next?

If above works didn't work for you, you can try reinstalling your OS again. Its not an hardware problem, it relates to your softwares.
