How to boot to desktop mode on the Dell Chromebox for Meetings

Instead of booting to the Chrome OS desktop, the Dell Chromebox for Meetings boots to a special "kiosk" mode of Google Hangouts to better facilitate the video-conferencing features of the device. Within this Google Hangouts mode settings and diagnostics are minimal, and the usual Google services are not accessible.

There may be times when it is necessary to boot to the Chrome OS desktop mode for troubleshooting purposes, or to have full access to Google services. To switch to desktop mode temporarily, first make sure a USB keyboard is attached to the device. There should be one USB port available when all the video conferencing peripherals are connected. Then reboot the Chromebox for Meetings device and press Ctrl + Alt + S on the attached keyboard while the system is booting.

NOTE: A brief prompt will appear advising the user to press the Ctrl + Alt + S combination to exit the Google Hangouts mode and boot to the desktop. The user has only a few seconds to press this combination before the system will continue with the regular Google Hangouts boot process. Once a network connection is made, then it is too late to use this key combination to enter the desktop mode and the device will need to be rebooted to try again.

The Dell Chromebox for Meetings device will automatically return to the Google Hangouts mode after the user logs out of the Chrome OS desktop mode, or after the device is rebooted.
