Reset NVRAM/Network

System Settings

  • Press the Menu button.
  • Press Down to "Configure" and press Set button.
  • Press Down to "Maintenance" and press Set button.
  • Press Down to "Init NVRAM" and press Set button.
  • The printer will ask "Are You Sure?" Press Down to "Yes" and press Set button.
  • Power cycle the printer.

Network Settings

  • Press the Menu button.
  • Press Down to "Configure" and press Set button.
  • Press Down to "Network" and press Set button.
  • Press Down to "Init NVRAM" and press Set button.
  • The printer will ask "Are You Sure?" Press Down to "Yes" and press Set button.
  • Power cycle the printer.

Wireless Network Settings

  • Press the Menu button.

  • Press Down to "Wireless Net" and press Set button.
  • Press Down to "Reset MPC" and press Set button.
  • The printer will ask "Are You Sure?" Press Down to "Yes" and press Set button.
  • Power cycle the printer.

* "Restore Now" returns most printer settings to the original factory default settings. Exceptions include the display language, custom sizes and messages, and "Network/Port" menu settings. All downloads stored in RAM are deleted. Downloads stored in flash memory are unaffected.

  • Press Menu button.
  • Press Down to "Settings" and press Select(checkmark).
  • Press Down to "General Settings" and press Select (checkmark).
  • Press Down to "Factory Defaults" and press Select (checkmark).
  • Press Down to "Restore Now" and press Select (checkmark).
  • The printer will display "Submitting Selection", then "Restoring Factory Defaults." The printer will then return to "Ready".

  • Release both buttons when "Performing Self-Test" appears.
  • The printer performs its power-on sequence, and then "Config Menu" appears.
  • Press Down to "Factory Defaults" and press Select (checkmark).
  • Press Down to "Network Restore" or "Reset Base" and press Select (checkmark).
    • "Reset Base" will restore all printer settings to factory defaults.
  • Power cycle the printer to return to "Ready" mode.

  • Press "Menu" on the screen.
  • Press "Settings".
  • Press "General Settings".
  • Press down and select "Factory Defaults".
  • Press down and select "Restore Now".
  • Press "Submit".
  • Press "Home" in the bottom right to return to "Ready".

  • Turn the printer off.
  • Press and hold 2 and 6 while turning the printer on.
  • Release both buttons when "Performing Self-Test" appears.
  • The printer performs its power-on sequence, and the "Configuration Menu" appears.
  • Press down and select "Factory Defaults".
  • Press down and select "Network Restore" or "Reset Base".
    • "Reset Base" will restore all printer settings to factory defaults.
  • Power cycle the printer to return to "Ready" mode.

  • Once finished, power cycle the printer to return to "Ready" mode.

    • When "Developer/ CE Password" comes up on the screen, press the up arrow twice and then press checkmark.
  • Press Select(checkmark) on "Printer Diag".
  • Press Down to "Installation Set" and press Select (checkmark).
  • Press Down to "NVM Init" and press Select (checkmark).
  • Press Select(checkmark) on "ESS Init".
  • Press Select(checkmark) on "OK?" message.
  • Power cycle the printer to return to the "Ready" mode.

  • Select the section you would like to reset.

Network Settings

  • Press "Network".
  • Press "Reset LAN".

Clear Settings from CE Mode

  • Enter CE Mode.
    • Hold down 4, 5, and 6 and turn on the printer.
    • When "Diag Password" comes up on the screen, press 2 twice and then press 5.
  • Press Down to "NVM Init".
S3840cdn / S3845cdn

Reset NVRAM/Network

To reset the NVRAM on the S3840cdn / S3845cdn you will need to enter Diagnostics Mode.

*Steps for entering Diagnostics Mode

  • Press the [Home] button more than 5 seconds.
  • Enter the Passcode (2456), and tap the [OK] button.
  • Scroll right and tap the [Diagnostics] button.
  • Select the Diagnostics menu.

System Factory Reset

  • Scroll down to DC301 Initialize NVM.
  • Scroll down and select Sys-System.
  • Select Start.
  • Select Yes
  • When completed the screen will shop NVM has been initialized.
  • Select Close.
  • Once completed follow the steps for exiting Diag Mode.

User Reset

  • Scroll down to DC301 Initialize NVM.
  • Scroll down and select Sys-User.
  • Select Start.
  • Select Yes
  • When completed the screen will shop NVM has been initialized.
  • Select Close.
  • Once completed follow the steps for exiting Diag Mode.

Steps for exiting Diagnostics Mode

  • Tap the [Exit] button and select the "Clear Error Log History" or "Keep Error Log History".
  • Tap the [Service] button.
  • Select the "Log Out" and exit the Diagnostics.

Steps to Perform after a NVRAM ( Factory Reset ) on the S3840cdn / S3845cdn Dell Laser Printers

Performing a factory reset (NVRAM) on S3840cdn and S3845cdn Dell Laser Printers will remove the following factory-installed applications:

  • Resetting the NVRAM ( Factory Defaults ) on the S3840cdn Dell Laser Printer will remove the factory installed application SharePoint.
  • Resetting the NVRAM ( Factory Defaults ) on the S3845cdn Dell Laser Printer will remove the factory installed applications Scan to Fax Server and SharePoint.

These applications can be reinstalled by following the instructions below.

  • Visit Dell Support.
  • You may enter the printers Service Tag or click "Choose from all products".
    • If using "Choose from all products" click on "Printers".
    • Next click on "Color Laser Printers".
    • Click on your model of printer listed as either "Dell Color Smart Printer S3840cdn" or "Dell Color Smart Multifunction Printer S3845cdn"
  • Once you have arrived to the Support Page for your model printer select "Drivers & Downloads".
  • Proceed to the "Embedded Solutions" and download the file.
  • You will need to have the printers IP Address available and follow the steps for the install.
    • Extract all files from the download and select the correct operating system.
    • Click LPRClint. The Weblet Installer should open for the next step.
    • Enter the printers IP Address and select the application you would like to install. Only one application can be uploaded at a time.
    • Select "Upload", there will be no response at this time on the printer showing upload status. The upload button will become "grayed" out signifying upload is in progress.
    • When installation is complete "Successfully Uploaded" will be displayed.
  • The installed application should now be listed and useable on the printer home screen.
