Upgrade your system by removing and installing the drive backplane. Follow detailed steps for safe handling, cable disconnection, and secure attachment. Ensure proper cable routing for optimal performance.
Prerequisites
Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
Power off the system and all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet, and disconnect the peripherals.
If applicable, remove the system from the rack.
Remove the system cover.
Remove the air shroud:
Hold the air shroud at both ends and lift the air shroud out of the system.
Removing the drive backplane cover:
Slide the drive backplane cover in the direction of the arrows marked on the drive backplane cover.
Lift the drive backplane cover from the system.
Remove all the drives.
If installed, disconnect the optical drive signal and power cables from the system.
Disconnect the drive backplane cables from the connectors on the system board.
Removing the drive backplane:
Press the blue release tabs to disengage the drive backplane from the hooks on the system.
Lift the drive backplane out of the system.
NOTE: To avoid damaging the backplane, ensure that you move the control panel cables from the cable routing clips before removing the backplane.
Installing the drive backplane:
Use the hooks on the system as guides to align the slots on the backplane with the guides on the system.
Slide the drive backplane into the guides and lower the backplane until the blue release tabs click into place.
Reconnect all the disconnected cables to the backplane.
Install all the drives:
Insert the drive blank into the drive slot until the release button clicks into place.
Install the drive backplane cover:
Align the drive backplane cover with the guide slots on the system.
Slide the drive backplane cover toward the front of the system until the drive backplane cover fits into place.
Install the air shroud:
Align the slot on the air shroud with the standoff on the system.
Lower the air shroud into the system until it is firmly seated.
Replace the system cover.
If applicable, install the system into the rack.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet, and then power on the system.
