In this video, we're going to show how to update the firmware or driver components in a V sand cluster. Before we begin, ensure that distributed resource scheduler is enabled in the V SAN cluster hosts are not in maintenance mode. V SAN data objects are healthy if the V SAN objects health is not healthy for the first host.
The firmware update job fails for other hosts. It waits for 60 minutes for the V SAN object health to become healthy again, rerun the inventory. After enabling the VA selected drivers and firmware are compliant. As for the VM Ware V SAN guidelines, you created a firmware or driver repository profile. The cluster satisfies the V SAN requirements for the selected data migration option.
It is highly recommended to select the baseline firmware or driver repository. There are no active firmware update jobs for any hosts under the cluster that you are updating. The hosts in the cluster are added to the connection profile and inventory is running successfully. The hosts in the V SAN cluster are added to a cluster profile and all the hosts are powered servers of the same model.
Note VM Ware recommends clusters to be built with identical server hardware. During the firmware update process. Dell E MC recommends not to delete certain items from the set up the host of a cluster from V center for which the firmware update job is in progress.
The connection profile of the host of a cluster for which the firmware update job is in progress. And the repository is located in CIFS or NFS to begin the firmware update. Right? Click the V SAN cluster and navigate to all open manage integration actions and then firmware update oivd checks whether any other firmware update job is in progress in any of the hosts within the same cluster.
After the verification, the firmware update page is displayed before you click next, read the instructions carefully, select the host to perform the firmware update and click next, select the firmware and driver repository profiles from the drop down menu. If the baseline repository is associated in the cluster profile, the associated firmware and driver repositories are automatically selected.
Note if you change the repository profile, a warning message will be displayed saying that you are deviating from the baseline. Click next, select an appropriate update bundle for your systems. Select the driver components that require update and click next similarly, select the firmware components that require update and click next, read the firmware update information.
Before you click next, enter the firmware update job name and description here. Description is optional note the firmware update, job name is mandatory and does not use a name that is already in use. However, if you purge the firmware update job name, you can reuse it to migrate the load from one V SAN host to another V SAN host specify the enter maintenance mode time out value.
The minimum maintenance mode time out value is 60 minutes and the maximum value is 24 hours or 1440 minutes. Click update to run the firmware update job. Now, if you want to migrate the V SAN data, select their appropriate options from the drop down menu. If you want to do the firmware update, later, select schedule update and then click next.
You can view the firmware and driver update details on the summary page when ready click finish. Now, the firmware update job has been created and it may take several hours depending on the complexity and the number of servers selected if needed. You can view the status of the firmware update job on the job Q page.
