Dell Remote Access is a new service that Dell is launching that allows people to easily get access to all their files and all their systems inside their home. The computer has become a central part of people's lives. There's a lot of information on them and they sometimes want to go check see what's going on at home. And Dell Remote Access makes it very easy when people are away from home to get access to any file they need and also be able to check on any device.
What we saw with devices like the mini that were coming out and people were also using their cell phones to be able to access there really was no way to give them full control. And what Dell Remote Access does is it allows you to have full control and access to your files, whether it is a cell phone or whether it's a mini. Plus with mini, you can have the option of being able to remotely control your PC. So you can run an application on your home PC as if you were there in front of that computer. Say for the mini if you don't have PowerPoint, you can run PowerPoint on your home computer make a PowerPoint file and save it there.
And if you needed to share it with somebody you could share them that folder or that file and they could get access to your presentation that you just did. What this does is really simplifies people's lives. A lot of times you go on a vacation. You wait until you get home from your vacation, then you download the pictures on to your computer and then you may send a couple e-mails.
Well, the pictures are going to be pretty large. And so you send them as attachments to people or you upload them to a spot where everyone has to get ads when they go and see the pictures. You can share just the file you want them to see or you can share just the folder that you want them to see. It securely takes people just to that spot on your computer, doesn't let them see anything else on your computer.
For anything that you want to remote into the home with, whether it's a cell phone or whether it's a mini, you don't need to put any software on it. What you have to do to start the service is only install the software on one Windows PC inside your home. That PC will stay on all the time. It's acting as a connection to the Internet for your home. Once that's up and running you set up an account and then that's it. You can go to any -- you can go to a friend's house and log in through their computer through a Web browser.
So any device practically that has a Web browser you'll be able to access your pictures, your music, anything that you have. You need to have a broadband connection. Most U.S. households have a broadband connection. The reason is that for dialup connections they usually only turn on when the person is sitting at the computer and wants to go access the Internet. Since you're trying to access from outside the home, there's no guarantee that that connection's going to be on.
Plus it's a very, very slow connection with a dialup. And you really need to have the performance to be able to have a richer Internet experience. The basic package gives you the ability to access one computer inside your home. All the files on that computer. You can either get files from that computer or you can upload files to a fold er on that computer. And what you can access it from is another computer outside the home.
It doesn't have to be your computer. Again it can be any computer that has a Web browser. The premium package that gives you a lot more functionality. It's 9.95 per month or if you buy in longer periods like say a year that would be $99. You would get a discount. With that package you would be able to access files from a mobile device that has a Web browser. You can remotely control your PC.
That's where you have the ability to use your PC and the software on your PC as if you were sitting right up in front of it. It would also give you the ability to share folders with friends and families and colleagues and you would also be able to look at network devices that are on your home network, whether it's other PCs or it's also a network You only need one account for your whole house.
You don't need to have an account for each PC in your house. Other services that are out there today they charge and they make you create an account for every single PC in your home. This one is very simple. It's just one account, one user name, one password, that's all you have to remember and you'll be able to get access to any number of devices that are inside your home.
