Alienware Command Center Does Not Detect Alienware Monitor and Does not Upgrade
Summary: This article provides information about the Alienware AW2725QF monitor not being detected in Alienware Command Center (AWCC).
Symptoms
Affected Products:
- Alienware AW2725QF Monitor
- Alienware Command Center
The installed versions of AWCC are not getting upgraded to version 6.3 when the AW2725QF monitor is connected for the first time, this results in the application not recognizing the monitor.
- Install AWCC v6.2.7.0 or earlier
- Ensure that all Windows updates are installed
- Connect AW2725QF monitor
Expected Behavior: AWCC is upgraded to v6.3, and AWCC detects the display in the AlienFX modules.
Actual Behavior: Nothing happens, and AWCC remains in the current version. Launching AWCC does not detect display in the AlienFX modules. Hence AW2725QF is not detected without the latest display package updated.
Cause
If an existing version of AWCC is installed, connecting the display does not really pull an upgrade. This has been the behavior of AWCC (both Intrepid and Archon versions). This issue is now visible because AW2725QF is enabled in v6.3, it is important that the upgrade happens for the display to be detected in AWCC.
Recovery: The probability of this issue occurring in the field is low mainly because previous versions of AWCC are upgraded to the latest version using other upgrade paths already functional in the computer. In such cases, the version of AWCC would have already upgraded to v6.3 and the device is detected as expected.
Resolution
Do not replace hardware for this issue.
The engineering department is working on a fix to be released in AWCC v6.4 or later. The update is posted to the computer's support page once it is made available.
