Symptoms

NetWorker Module for Microsoft (NMM) 19.7.1 SharePoint Federated Backup fails to spawn backup process on the SQL Server host.

The web server coordinates the backup and spawns job by design on the SQL Server and that job fails with.
date 126432:nsrnmmsv: Unable to create temporary folder.

date 146230:nsrnmmsv: Save program thrown exception: 'Unable to process command line arguments.'.

Cause

The file system permissions on the NetWorker tmp\nmm folder are missing Full Control permissions.

For example, the folder C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\tmp contains another subfolder nmm. The folder C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\tmp\nmm is missing Full Control permissions for SYSTEM account and for the remote user that spawns the SharePoint backup.

Note: The Remote User field is found in the client resource of the web server in NetWorker server.

Resolution

The issue is addressed by taking these steps:
  1. Manually Delete the folder C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\tmp\nmm
  2. Add Full Control permissions to the SYSTEM account and to the remote username on the tmp folder, for example, C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\tmp
