Symptoms

-Applying MS hotfixes.
  • To fix this we need to apply Microsoft hotfix for VDS service & StorPort hotfix . Please apply below both hotfixes:

Cause

Server was involved in a backup of the LUNs being migrated. This is not supported while PPME is migrating data.

1) Under System Event logs, found that VDS(Virtual Disk Service) failed several times just before PPME went into targetLUfault:

2) Storport hotfix is also not applied on server.


Resolution

The following should assist in avoiding the problem experienced above during a PPME migration:
  • Make sure we meet all the prerequisites before starting PPME migration as per PPME guide
  • Disable database backup of SQL and ASR running on server. PPME should not be run concurrently on a server with backup Or antivirus. Please disable untill PPME is completed.
  • Make sure symmetrix flags are setup properly as per KB # What Symmetrix director flags (bits) are required for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008 and 2012?
  • Cleanup the migration.  Powermig cleanup  handle 4
  • Download Powerpath 6.1.
  • Uninstall Older Powerpath 5.7SP4 using command line (<EMC_Powerpath_6.1._ EXE>  /r)
  • Reboot
  • Install Powerpath 6.1
  • Apply both MS Storport hotfixes as mentioned under "change" section.

  • Stop heavy database backups and antivirus.
  • Reinitiate PPME.
