PowerFlex 4.x: Error When Deploying RG the required acceleration capacity exceeds the configured Memory SDPM

Summary: This Article is about changing Software Defined Persistent Memory (SDPM) to 64 96 or 128 according to the sizing table.

Symptoms

When deploying a Storage Only resource group (RG).  The deployment fails with error "the required acceleration capacity for Fine Granularity exceeds the configured capacity."   If you click on the Block tab and click SDS.  One or more SDSs will not have all the capacity devices added.

Deployment may fail. When deploying a Resource Group with 16G PowerEdge Node having SDPM, if the default 32 SDPM value is not enough according to the below sizing table.

Cause

The default SDPM value is 32GB.   Which can be insufficient depending on the total capacity of the storage devices in the server.

The available sizes supported in the SDPM config are as follows:

  • 32GB
  • 64GB
  • 96GB
  • 128GB

Resolution

Steps to change the size of the SDPM and sanitize it.

1-Remove the capacity devices and then remove the acceleration devices from the SDS.

2-Change SDPM size to the correct value according to the sizing table

  • Option 1: In 16G nodes the SDPM and NVDIMM page can be accessed from the iDRAC Configuration tab, under BIOS Settings | Memory Settings > Persistent Memory.

Default Size

Config example with 64 GB

Be sure to Apply and use the Reboot button at the bottom of the page!

  • Option 2:  from the System Setup Page Valid for all PowerEdge generations

Note: Only PowerEdge 16G has SDPM, older models have physical NVDIMMs.

  1. Power on the PowerFlex node.
  2. Press F2 immediately to enter the system setup
  3. Go to System BIOS > Memory Settings. The current system BIOS memory settings are displayed.
  4. Click Persistent Memory
  5. To configure the SDPM default memory size, click Software Defined Persistent Memory > SDPM Default Memory Size

3-Select the appropriate memory size for the PowerFlex node. Use the following SDPM sizing table for reference.

4- Sanitize the SDPM, Same options in step 2 can be used to access the sanitize page.

  • Example from iDRAC web interface, change Current Value to Enabled from the drop-down list

Click on Configuration > BIOS Settings > Memory Settings >  scroll down to Persistent Memory

  • Example from the BIOS System Setup Page
