Instructions

NFS was first introduced on Dell EMC OpenManage Integration for VMware vCenter in OMIVV 5.2. The process is documented on the user's guide, for example, OMIVV 5.3 User's Guide Page 20: https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/openmanage-integration-vmware-vcenter_install-guide3_en-us.pdf and installation guide page 38 https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/openmanage-integration-vmware-vcenter_install-guide3_en-us.pdf:

Upgrade OMIVV appliance using RPM (using Intranet)

Step-by-Step Process for using NFS guide:

  1. Download the RPM .zip package available at https://www.dell.com/support.

Direct link, for example, purposes only, as it is for OMIVV 5.3. If the upgrade is to 5.4, browse for the corresponding link using the Dell Support Website.

  1. Extract the RPM .zip package and copy the files and folders from the extracted location to HTTP or HTTPS or NFS share.

  2. On the APPLIANCE MANAGEMENT page, in the APPLIANCE UPDATE area, click Edit, and then enter the shared location path in Update Repository Path.

The NFS Syntax should be on the following format:

<ip>:/<share>/<path>

Appliance Update

  1. Click Apply.

  2. Compare the available OMIVV appliance version and the current OMIVV appliance version.

  3. To apply the update to the OMIVV appliance, under Appliance Settings, click Update Virtual Appliance.

  4. In the UPDATE APPLIANCE dialog box, click Update. After you click Update, you are logged out from the OMIVV ADMINISTRATION CONSOLE window. It may take approximately 40 minutes to complete the update depending on your network speed.

  5. Close the web browser. Once the appliance upgrade is complete, ensure that you clear the browser cache before logging in to the OMIVV ADMINISTRATION CONSOLE.

NFS share Requirements and Recommendations:

NFS requirements per Installation Guide are available on page 38 for the Database "Backup and Restore" options: https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/openmanage-integration-vmware-vcenter_install-guide3_en-us.pdf:

NFS requirements

From that information, we can infer the following:

Share permissions:

Can be set to "All Machines" or can specify the OMIVV IP address and allow read or read and write.
nfs share

NFS authentication (Microsoft Windows Example):

"Enable unmapped user access" and access by UID/GID.

nfs share

NTFS permissions

OMIVV Web Console interface does not allow for a UserID to be specified for either Backup/Restore for the Database or for the Appliance Update option, hence, "Everyone" is required to be allowed access (at least read access):
