Data Domain High Availability: Error during initial IP configuration "ethxxx is used for the interconnect and cannot be configured"
Summary: Data Domain High Availability (DDHA) workaround for an initial IP configuration issue. 'config setup' doesn’t work in case of DDHA. It will give the following error "ethxxx is used for the interconnect and cannot be configured". CE will have to configure the management IP manually to bring both heads on network. Resolution
A workaround is to configure the management IP manually to bring both heads on the network.
The following commands needs to be run on both the nodes:
Once both heads are on the network, follow KB article 502203: Data Domain High Availability: How to configure HA for a new installation? using 'ha create peer' to configure the HA manually.
The following commands needs to be run on both the nodes:
- Set the hostname:
net set hostname <mydd.mycompany.com>
mydd.mycompany.com is the name of the head
mydd.mycompany.com is the name of the head
- Set the IP address and bring up the interface:
net config <ifname> <ipaddr> up
ifname - Is the name of the ethernet port or virtual ethernet port
ipaddr - IP of the head
E.g.: net config ethMa <IP address> netmask <subnet address> up
ifname - Is the name of the ethernet port or virtual ethernet port
ipaddr - IP of the head
E.g.: net config ethMa <IP address> netmask <subnet address> up
- Set the DNS:
net set dns <ipaddr1>
- Set the Gateway:
route set gw <ipaddress>
Once both heads are on the network, follow KB article 502203: Data Domain High Availability: How to configure HA for a new installation? using 'ha create peer' to configure the HA manually.
